Post Due Thurs. 4/7
-
In this post, please answer and discuss the following prompt:
The idea of the beast has come up several times now, and in this chapter the boys actually believe (well, some of them) there is a beast and go looking for it. There are a lot of symbols in this book, but the beast is a major one. What does the beast stand for, as a symbol? Think about how the idea of a beast comes up in the story and the fact that they have been scared of this thing that may or may not even exist, for several chapters now. Why are they so scared of it even though they cannot confirm its existence?
Basically, what does the beast represent on the island, for the boys, and in this little “society” that they have landed themselves in?
And finally - Ralph doesn’t believe that there is a beast, but he still goes on the hunt. Why?
Again, remember to use specific examples and quotes from the book. The posts are graded out of 25 points.
Also, don’t forget to reply to your classmates! Check in every once in a while to see if someone has responded to your posts.
Everything is due by 6:30 AM.

Summary: In Chapters 6, the boys go off on a hunt. But for what are they looking for?

The boys, with Ralph tailing behind, do go on a hunt to find the beast. I think there are several reason why Ralph decides to go. One reason is I think he feels if they do not find one, that will show his intelligence and solidify his role as a leader for the "society". Also, I think he wants to show the littleluns how to overcome their fears and learn to live and deal with adversity. But, this so they think beast does make an appearance that Sam and Eric see ( in reality it is the mangled body of a parachutist making a beast like shadow from the flames). It sounds bizarre to look for an unknown beast but these boys do (so they think) have viable evidence to commence the hunt.

I believe that the beast represents how scared they all actually are and all they're paranoia from being on the island created them to have a belief in a beast that they don't even know is real and cant be confirmed that its real, they just think its there. Ralph goes on the hunt even though he doesnt believe in the beast because i think that he's also curious as well, he doesnt believe in it or does he? Hes the leader he has to be strong he might be trying to trick all the boys to believing there isnt one either so they arent scared. I also think that if there isnt one he will be cocky and will try to say how smart he was because he believe there isnt one.

I believe that the beast is really inside of the boys themselves, and how being on the island has started to make the kids go insane and their isolation has created this fear that in reality is not true inside of their heads. I believe that Ralph goes on the hunt to show that he is a fearless leader to the boys, but also to see for himself if the beast is real, along with trying to show the boys they need to be brave in situations like this. I also believe that he went to also relight the signal fire on the mountain, working as a two birds one stone action.

As a symbol, the beast represents the fear the boys have of the beast inside themselves. They are all scared of the actual beast because even though there is no proof of it's existence, there is the possibility of the things it could do. They make up scenarios of what it could do so it becomes worse in the boys' mind than what it could actually do. That also relates to the "beast inside of the boys". One of the boys, even Ralph, could have a scary side to him that could be released at any moment of stress or tiredness. If that side is released from anyone on the island, it could bring terror to the boys' civilization that they created. Ralph does not believe in the beast but still goes on the hunt for it because he wants to prove to people that there is not one. He wants to assure the boys, especially the littleuns, that the beast is only in their imagination.

The beast is just in the boys' imaginations but in reality I think the beast represents the dark side of the boys. As they become more cruel and uncivilized because of living on the island the thought of the beast becomes bigger. They are afraid of the beast, but only Simon realizes that they fear the beast because the beast is really just inside them. Ralph doesn't believe there is a beast but he still goes looking for it because I think he was curious to know if this beast that had been taking up the boys' minds was actually real and not just their imagination.

The beast represents the symbol of fear that is inside them. Ralph doesn't believe that there is a beast but still goes out looking for it because maybe he wants some clarification. He might know that this beast is just imaginary but wants to know how the boys created it. It is all inside their head and something tells me that Ralph agrees with that theory.

The beast on the island and in this story so far symbolizes the unknown. Because the beast is an unknown the boys on the island for the most part are either afraid or at least wary of it. Ralph though he may not believe such a beast exists on the island he goes hunting with them for a clearer image of what is going on.

I think that the beast in this story represents something that the are all afraid of. And I also think that Ralph decides to go on the hunt to prove to the little ones that they shouldn't be afraid of things that they aren't sure of and so this whole idea of the "beast" can finally be handled. So since Ralph doesn't believe in the beast, he just wants to prove to everybody that it doesn't exist or if it does, he can handle it.

Beast
In the chapter we can see how fear is controlling the boys. Some of the littler kids on the island think there is a monster coming after them and the older ones are now trying to hunt it down. We dont know if there is some monster out there. For all we know the book could go from realistic fiction to science fiction, as seen in other media about similar topics (cough cough lost) and so we really do not know what is out there, but the boys sure want to find out.

abc, I agree with you. The boys are all afraid of the beast even when they don't know if it really exists or not. They are scared of he idea of this beast and what it could do. And that Ralph decides to go on this hunt so he can prove to everyone that the beast isn't real so they can stop being paranoid and scared,.

Re: Post Due Thurs. 4/7
I think the beast represents the island it's a fierce and brutal challenge everyone has to face. The boys may be hunting part of the beast as in all the animals on the island. I think He joins the hunt just to show everyone that he is brave and won't back down. He also joins it because Him and some of the boys see him as a leader. Although the boys don't know what the beast is some of them now have matured enough to have the courage to try and hunt it shows how they have progressed and a lot of the boys are trying to take a leader role or a higher role.

The Hunt For The Beast
In chapter 6, the boys go off on a hunt to find the "beast". Ralph ad the hunters decide to go and leave Piggy taking care of the littluns. They grab spears and head off to find the beast. The symbol I think is that the boys have it in them (beast). Since they are stuck in an island with no family and people they just met they could go crazy and go on a rampage. The beast is pretty much the bad side of the boys or the dark side. Ralph as the leader decides to go out and look for the beast. He takes responsibility as the chosen chief.

I agree with what soccer said about how the beast in the story symbolizes what the boys are scared of and also it symbolized their fear inside themselves.

The idea of the beast came from when a a guy in a parachute came to and when he was landing he got tangled in a tree and crashed and it was very bloody and when sam and eric wake up they go out for a search they fing the man and see how he is badly wounded and they thought that he got attacked and they are scared because they are not sure if they are in danger or ready if it trys to attack them.
